LoonieCalc is a free Canadian financial calculator utility. The calculators and written content on this site are provided for general informational purposes only. Nothing on LoonieCalc is financial, tax, mortgage, investment, accounting, or legal advice.
What this means in practice
Each calculator on this site applies a current published Canadian rule — a CRA tax bracket, a Bank of Canada rate, an OSFI stress-test formula, a CMHC premium tier, a provincial land transfer schedule — to the inputs you supply, and reports what the math says. The calculator does not know your full financial situation, your filing status, your provincial residency on a particular date, your prior carry-forward room, your creditor profile, or any of the other facts that would change how those rules apply to you in real life.
A calculator output is therefore an estimate based on the inputs you supplied and the rule the calculator implements. It is not a binding determination, an assessment, or a quote. Real Canadian tax returns, real mortgage approvals, real benefit eligibility, and real transaction closings depend on facts and rules a free calculator on a public website cannot fully model.
Always verify with a qualified professional
Before acting on a calculator output:
- For tax matters, consult a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) or another tax professional licensed in your province, or contact the Canada Revenue Agency directly. CRA's "My Account" portal is the authoritative source for your contribution room, your prior-year assessments, and your account balances.
- For mortgage matters, consult a licensed mortgage broker or your financial institution. Lender-specific overlays, current rate offers, and underwriting decisions are not modelled by any calculator on this site.
- For investment and retirement-planning matters, consult a Registered Investment Advisor or a Certified Financial Planner (CFP). The RRSP-vs-TFSA, defer-CPP, and similar comparisons on this site report what the math says under the assumptions you provide; they do not account for your goals, your risk tolerance, or your overall plan.
- For real-estate transactions, consult a BC notary, an Ontario lawyer, or whichever provincial professional handles closings in your jurisdiction. Land transfer tax exemptions, foreign-buyer rules, and title considerations are jurisdiction-specific and time-sensitive.
- For benefits matters (CCB, EI, OAS, GIS, CPP), Service Canada and the relevant federal program office are the authoritative source for what you actually receive.
No warranty of accuracy or currency
Tax rates, contribution limits, statutory schedules, and government benefit amounts change frequently. We update calculators against their primary sources every quarter and within seven days of any material rule change of which we become aware (Bank of Canada rate decisions, OSFI bulletins, CRA announcements, federal and provincial budgets). The update cadence and verification process are described in our methodology.
Despite that process, we do not warrant that any calculator on LoonieCalc reflects the most current state of the law at the moment you use it. Each calculator page shows a "Last verified" date — if that date is older than the most recent rule change you are aware of, defer to the primary source rather than to the calculator. We list the relevant primary sources on every calculator page; the master index is at looniecalc.ca/sources.
